Promoting professionalisation and innovations in teacher education for technical and vocational education and training (TVET) – European working conference on the international Masters Framework for TVET Teachers (MF-TT)

Venue: Akershus University College (Högskolen i Akershus – HIAK), Instituttveien 24, Kjeller; Lilleström, near Oslo Airport, Norway
Time: 6.2 - 7.2.2006 (Monday-Tuesday)

The international UNIP network and the Akershus University College (Högskolen i Akershus- HIAK) are organising a joint European working conference on 6.2. - 7.2. 2006 at the HIAK, in Lilleström, near Oslo Airport.

The aim of the European working conference is to provide support for

  • the development of Masters Programmes for TVET teachers (on the basis of the international Masters Framework for TVET Teachers that was agreed in Hangzhou),
  • European cooperation between existing Masters Programmes and other TVET teacher education programmes (that are reshaping themselves for the Bachelor-Master structure),
  • joint preparation of European research cooperation initiatives linked to innovations and professionalisation in TVET teacher education and to
  • make decisions on the future work of the European section (or initiative group) of the international UNIP network here called as “UNIP-Europe”.

The work of the conference is mainly taking place in parallel workshops:

  • The workshops of the first day will have a thematic focus (“vocational disciplines” or “TVET research”). The discussions are based on introductory inputs from and on exemplary cases.
  • The workshops of the second day will concentrate on planning the future cooperation activities. One workshop will prepare proposals for the consolidation of UNIP-Europe. The other one will discuss potential project proposals for European cooperation programmes.

The time that is available for the workshops is limited. Therefore it is not possible to organise extensive paper sessions. However, participants are invited to submit input papers that are related to the topics of the workshops. In particular we welcome contributions that present or analyse

  • the working concepts of existing Masters Programmes in TVET (and the approach to different occupational fields and to innovations in vocational teaching-learning processes);
  • ongoing changes and reform proposals related to TVET teacher education models to meet the requirements of the European Higher Education Area;
  • the potential contribution of TVET research and ongoing research activities as support for TVET teacher education;
  • experiences with European (or international) cooperation related to TVET teacher education.

As we indicated, the sessions have limited possibilities to discuss individual papers. However, it would be important to get a picture of current research work, of related educational planning and on emerging European (or international) cooperation initiatives. The follow-up activities after the working conference can provide useful support for these activities. Therefore, we would welcome different kinds of input papers and explore the possibilities to use them either as a basis for future publications or as inputs to web-based discussion areas. In this respect we would be interested of the following kinds of input papers:

Category 1:
Recent research papers or abstracts of forthcoming research papers (that are being prepared to be published);

Category 2:
Recent curriculum documents and strategy documents that present the development of Masters Programmes and related research activities;

Category 3:
Recent project reports or planning documents that provide a picture of the work of national or trans-national projects;

Category 4:
Recent Commentary notes or statement papers that present a well-grounded expert opinion on current developments regarding TVET teacher education.

Based on the mutual agreements with the participants the UNIP network will make the conference materials available on the web. The UNIP network will also explore the possibilities to prepare publications on the basis of the papers that are prepared in the context of the Asian and European working conferences.
In the light of the above we ask you to consider the possibility to submit an input paper and on your agreement to make it available on the UNIP website. Please submit your paper as an electronic document (attachment to e-mail message) by 20.1.2006 (Deadline extended until 15.1.2006!) to the following e-mail addresses:

pekka.kamarainen(at)itb.uni-bremen.de
atarrou(at)hiak.no

Please inform the supporting SEVU centre on your participation already by 20.12.2005 (Deadline extended until 15.1.2006!).

If you have questions or further proposals, please do not hesitate to contact us.
