A workshop entitled "Innovation and Internationalisation in the Qualification of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Experts" adressing Asia and South Asia will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from November 22nd until November 25th 2006. The workshop is jointly organised by the Department of Technical Education and Training of Sri Lanka (DTET), the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the United Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Network on Innovation and Professional Development (UNIP), and UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and
Vocational Education and Training.
The aim of this workshop is to substantiate the implementation of the international Master study programme for TVET in Sri Lanka, to develop and adopt models for cooperation in the South Asian region and to stipulate the exploratory focus and international research cooperation in the field of TVET especially for Asia and South Asia.
The workshop will start with 2 plenary keynote-addresses. 1 ½ days are dedicated to working group discussions. 2 parallel working groups will be held on the following contents:
Working group 1:
Introduction and discussion of a Master study program concept for teacher training in Sri Lanka, including technical qualifications and subject-related didactical competences.
This session will focus on content and methodological issues of the TVET teacher training programmes, which are about to be implemented in Sri Lanka. However, attention will also be paid to international standards as a basis for trans-national co-operation and exchange with other countries in South, South-East and East Asia.
Working group 2:
Introduction and discussion of a concept for international cooperation between universities in the field of TVET with a focus on South Asia.
This session will focus on international cooperation in the field of teacher/trainer education and the related R&D co-operation and knowledge exchange between universities in South, South-East and East Asia and other parts of the world. All aspects of such co-operation will be covered. International standards for TVET teacher education, trans-national higher degree programmes, joint international research initiatives, common research needs with regional relevance of international interest are examples.
Following the parallel sessions there will be a plenary working group discussion:
Working group 3:
Identifying R&D needs in the field of TVET.
Based on the outcome of the two other working group sessions and additional input a map for future international co-operation and R&D in the region will be developed. It is anticipated that the participants of the working conference will agree on this map as a basis for future co-operation. If possible a regional section of UNIP will be set up.
More detailed information, especially regarding registration, will be shortly available from the workshop website www.tvet-workshop-colombo2006.lk, which will be in operation after October 9th.
